Question : CRIMEAN CONGO HEMORRHAGIC FEVER



(a) whether cases of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) have been reported from various parts of the country

(b) if so, the details thereof indicating the number of such cases reported and the number out of them cured and died during each of the last three years and the current year, State/ UT-wise;

(c) the financial and technical assistance provided to the States/UTs to check such cases during the said period, State/UT-wise;

(d) the details of medicines and vaccines made available by the Government for the prevention and treatment of the above disease; and

(e) whether the Government has tested the quality and efficacy of the aforesaid drugs/vaccines in Indian conditions, if so, the details and the outcome thereof?

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)

(a): Yes, cases of Crimean – Congo Haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) have been reported from the various parts of the country.

(b): State wise details of cases and deaths are annexed.

(c) Following assistance is provided:

# Government of India has implemented the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) to detect and respond to disease outbreaks due to epidemic prone diseases including CCHF.

# Technical assistance is provided to the States for investigation, prevention and control of the outbreaks by Central/NCDC team.

# Under IDSP the District and State capacities have been strengthened by providing additional manpower, training of identified Rapid Response Team members for outbreak investigations and information and communications technology (ICT) equipment for data entry, analysis and data transfer.

# Since CCHF is a zoonotic disease, outbreak inves- tigations are carried out in collaboration with State Animal Husbandry Department and National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (formerly HSADL) Bhopal for effective prevention and control measures.

# A Communicable Disease alert on CCHF is published and uploaded on National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) website for dissemination of information It is also circulated to States for ready reference.

# NCDC, Delhi & National Institute of Virology, Pune have facility to undertake laboratory diagnosis of CCHF.

(d) & (e): Currently, no vaccine is available. Cases are managed in isolation facility following infection control practices by supportive care and antiviral drug – Ribavirin.
