Question : Modernisation-Upgradation of Airports

(a) the number of metropolitan and non-metropolitan airports in the country which are functional;

(b) whether the Government proposes to modernise all metropolitan and nonmetropolitan airports under the public private partnership mode, if so, the details thereof;


(c) whether the Government has received requests from various States for modernising/upgrading airports and helipads;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the other steps being taken by the Government to upgrade various airports?

(a) to (e): A statement is laid on the table of the House.


Statement in reply to part (a) to (e) of the Lok Sabha Starred (*) Question NO. 66 for 3rd December, 2015 regarding Modernization/ Upgradation of Airports.

(a): Details of metropolitan and non-metropolitan airports of the country which are functional are given in Annexure-I.

(b): There is no such proposal to modernise all airports under the PPP mode.

(c) & (d): Details of the proposal received are given in Annexure-II.

(e): Up-gradation and expansion of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken in a phased manner based on improvement in service levels, conveniences desired, operational requirement for safety of aircraft operation, demand from airlines availability of land, viability etc in reference to intended aircraft operations. Works undertaken by Airports Authority of India towards upgradation and expansion of airports during last 3 years is given at Annexure-III.
