Question : FDI Policy

(a) whether the Government is considering the demands of the foreign retailers for allowing non-food items suchas home care products under the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Policy;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor along with the time by which the said policy is likely to be implemented; and

(c) whether the Government also proposes to further relax FDI norms pertaining to the sale of Indian-origin food products and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): Government has been interacting with investors to identify issues for promoting FDI in the food processing sector. Several issues including sale of home and personal care products have been raised by investors. Further, review of FDI policy is an ongoing process and significant changes are made in the FDI policy regime, from time to time, to ensure that India remains an attractive investment destination.
