(a) the existing storage capacity of foodgrains in Orissa, district-wise;
(b) whether the Government has any plans to increase the storage capacity in the State including the district of Dhenkanal to relieve the farmers from making distress sales in the absence of adequate storage capacity;
(c) if so, the details thereof; and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): As on 1-1-2005, the FCI has a total storage capacity of 5.95 lakh MTs (owned & hired) in the State of Orissa. The District-wise details are given in the statement attached at Annex.
(b) & (c): As regards, plans to increase the storage capacity, the Government has given approval for construction of 2.50 lakh MTs [0.50 lakh MTs to Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) and 2.00 lakh MTs to State Warehousing Corporation (SWC) under the Seven Year Guarantee Scheme in Orissa State, out of which 1.99 lakh MTs from SWC has already been taken over by FCI.
In Dhenkanal District, at present the FCI has 12,500 MTs owned storage capacity against the foodgrains stocks of 4,900 MTs only and the available storage capacity is adequate.
(d): Does not arise.
