Question : VETERINARY FACILITIES IN NANDANKANAN ZOO



(a) Whether many rare species of animals are killed due to lack of veterinary facilities at Nandankanan Zoo in Orissa; and

(b) If so, the steps the Government taken for proper maintenance specially with regard`s to providing veterinary facilities there?

(a) Veterinary facilities at Nandankanan zoo are upto the required standard. No deaths of endangered species can be attributed to lack of veterinary facilities or laxity on the part of veterinarian alone.

(b) Central Zoo Authority has provided financial assistance of Rs.134 lakhs to the zoo for -

-	providing security fencing wall;
-	improved water supply to zoo animals;
-	reconstruction of animal housing and chain link fencing of tiger safari;
-	renovation of veterinary hospital and developing better health care facilities	for zoo animals;
- providing upgraded isolation hall and squeeze facilities etc.
