Question : DISPOSAL OF PASSPORT APPLICATIONS



(a) the number of passports issued by passport offices in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh during the last three years, year-wise;

(b) the average time taken by these offices in issuing passports;

(c) the number of applications pending for passports in these offices from more than six months; and

(d) the steps taken or likely to be taken to dispose of these applications expeditiously?

a) The number of passports issued in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are as follows:

b) At present these offices are issuing passports on an average in a period of 5 to 7 weeks.

c) No applications are pending for more than six months in which the documents are complete and the police report is clear.

d) All passport offices contact the applicants at the stated addresses to complete the application forms. This process is undertaken on two occasions at least before the files are closed. In cases of negative police report an opportunity is given to the applicant to resolve the issue so that such cases are expeditiously dealt with.
