Question : NATIONAL OPEN SCHOOLS



(a) whether the Government are aware that National Open School is a Government Institution authorized to conduct Xth & XIIth classes examinations recognized by all the Boards and Universities in India;

(b) whether the Government are also aware that these examinations are held in the month of March every year;

(c) whether the Government are also aware that the National Open School has not supplied/provided the books to the students upto the end of November this year;

(d) whether the Government are also aware that books are being sent in English medium to those students who have registered their names for answering in Hindi medium; and

(e) if so, the reasons for incomplete and inadequate supply of books and the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to improve supply of books to the students?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (PROF. RITA VERMA)

(a): Yes, Sir. The National Institute of Open Schooling (formally known as National Open School), an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Human Resource Development conducts its own examinations and award certificates for Secondary Course (equivalent to class X) and Senior Secondary Course (equivalent to class XII) which are recognized by various Boards and Universities/Institutions including Association of Indian Universities and CBSE.

(b): NIOS conducts its Public examinations twice a year in the months of March-May and September-November.

(c): NIOS had sent its study materials to its study centres well in time i.e. commencement of admissions. Moreover, additional requirement of study material was also sent based on the actual enrollment after the finalisation of admission in the month of September.

(d)&(e): Study materials are dispatched by NIOS to their Study Centres as per their projected requirement in various medium of instructions. In rare cases of wrong/incomplete dispatches, remedial measures are taken immediately.
