Question : SCHEMES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF VILLAGES



(a) whether the Government has taken/ proposes to take any steps to formulate a scheme for providing drinking water, primary education, mid-day-meal and free healthcare facilities in all the Gram Panchayats for all round development of all the villages in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c) : Planning and development of an area within the State is primarily the responsibility of the State concerned. The Central Government supplements the efforts of the State Governments through various flagship programmes. The flagship programmes for providing drinking water, primary education, mid-day meal and health care facilities in rural areas, namely, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid- Day Meal Scheme and National Rural Health Mission are already in operation. There is no proposal at present to formulate any single scheme in this regard.
