Question : National Policy on Software


Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has finalized a National Policy on Software Products to promote talent and contribute bigger share of software products to the global market and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the extent of growth of software products sector by the next ten years and the worth of IT Industry in the country and its export share in the global market; and

(c) the details of steps taken to promote creation of sustainable software products with innovations and cutting edge technologies?

Answer given by the minister

(a): No, Madam.

(b): As per iSPIRT(Indian Software Products Industry Round Table), the global software products industry is at present estimated to be US$ 411 billion and is expected to reach US$ 1.2 trillion by 2025. The revenue of software products industry in India at present is US$ 6.1 billion out of which US$1.9 billion is from exports.

(c): The Government had initiated a “Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs” (TIDE) scheme focused to nurture technology start-ups companies. The scheme fosters a culture of collaborative technology research and strong industry-academia interaction including promoting product oriented research and development. The scheme has been implemented at 27 centres and 2 Virtual TIDE centres of institute for higher learning. As a result, 207 start-ups benefited from which 384 entrepreneurs emerged, 2846 jobs created, 74 patents registered, 52 start-ups attracted Venture Capitalists, and 243 products have been developed by these start-ups.
