Question : ADMISSION OF STUDENTS



(a) whether the number of seats in Delhi University are needed to be increased keeping in view the increasing demand for admissions;

(b) if so, whether the Government has chalked out any plan in this regard;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the number of students who have applied for admission for the academic year 2005-06;

(e) the number of students who have been enrolled so far; and

(f) the future plan for increasing the number of seats in Delhi University?

(a) to (f): According to the information furnished by the University of Delhi, approximately 1,04,000 students have applied for admission to the undergraduate courses in various colleges of the University during the current academic session. There are 43,321 seats in these colleges. The remaining students have the option of being enrolled in the distance and non-formal streams which have an intake capacity of more than 70,000 and are at par with the formal stream in terms of curriculum and the degrees awarded.
