Question : FUNDS FOR NON ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES



(a) whether any grant is sanctioned to schools for non-academic activities such as printing of question papers, sports, scout/ guide, cultural activities and other progressive works under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan/Right to Education Act;

(b) if so, the details of norms fixed for the purpose; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor and the details of the arrangement of funds being made by the Government to assist schools to carry out these activities?

(a) to (c): Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme, school grant is provided to all Gover- nment and Government aided schools on annual basis @ Rs. 5000/- for primary schools and @Rs. 7000/- for upper primary schools, which can be used for the replacement of non-functional school equipment and for incurring other recurring cost, such as consumables, play material, games, sports equipment etc. The school grant is to be spent only by School Management Committee/Village Education Committee.
