Question : Promotion of Tourism in Valmikinagar

(a) the steps taken to promote tourism in Valkiminagar;
(b) the quantum of funds allocated by the Union Government to develop Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve during the last five years;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government proposes to develop the only Tiger reserve in Bihar;
(e) if not, the reasons therefor ?

(a): Ministry of Tourism promotes India in a holistic manner, including Valmikinagar in Bihar. As part of its on-going activities, it releases domestic and international print, electronic and online media campaigns under the ‘Incredible India’ brand-line, to promote various tourism destinations and products of the country through its Schemes of ‘Domestic Promotion & Publicity including Hospitality (DPPH)’ and ‘Overseas Promotion & Publicity Including Market Development Assistance'' (OPMD).

(b) and (c): As per information received from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) pertaining to Division Project Tiger, the funding assistance is provided under the ongoing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Project Tiger to tiger range states for conservation and protection of tigers and other wildlife interalia including awareness promotion.

Funds allocated in three years under Project Tiger are as below :

(d) and (e): The Government of India through the National Tiger Conservation Authority (Normative Standard for Tourism activities and Project Tiger) Guidelines, 2012 issued under section 38 O (1)(c) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 promotes sustainable ecotourism in and around tiger reserves.
