Question : National Level Sports Stadiums

(a) whether there is a plan to construct national level sports stadiums to encourage international level sports in the tribal dominated areas of Rajasthan including Banswara and Dungarpur districts and in Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh which is known for education;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the said plan is likely to be started and completed;

(c) the amount of funds earmarked and released to promote sports in both Banswara and Dungarpur districts during the last five years including the details thereof; and

(d) the provision of funds made during the years 2019-20 and 2020-21 for the local centre of Sports Authority of India (SAI) situated in Prayagraj?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. †*54 ANSWERED ON 22.07.2021 REGARDING “NATIONAL LEVEL SPORTS STADIUMS” ASKED BY SHRI KANAKMAL KATARA AND SHRIMATI KESHARI DEVI PATEL, HON’BLE MEMBERS OF LOK SABHA

(a) and (b) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of creating sports infrastructure including national level sports stadiums rests with the State / Union Territory Governments. Central Government supplements their efforts by bridging the critical gaps in sports infrastructure. No proposals have been received in this Ministry to construct sports stadiums in Banswara and Dungarpur districts of Rajasthan or Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh.

(c) Funds are allocated by the Union Government Scheme-wise, not State/Union Territory or District-wise. However, funds released for development of sports in Rajasthan under Khelo India Scheme during the last five years are as under: -

Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium, Prayagraj for Lawn Tennis Discipline has been notified as Khelo India Centre (KIC) and ? 7 lakhs have been released.
