Question : Supply of Drinking Water

(a) whether a number of households in rural areas of the country do not have access to adequate supply of drinking water; and
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise including Tamil Nadu?

(a)& (b) Water is a State subject. Under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), this Ministry provides technical & financial assistance to the states to improve the coverage of safe drinking water in rural areas. Coverage of safe drinking water is maintained in terms of Fully Covered (FC) Habitations (i.e. have access to more than 40 liters per capita per day (lpcd), Partially Covered (PC) (i.e. have access to less than 40 lpcd) and Quality Affected (QA) habitation (i.e. containing chemical contamination). As reported by States on Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), the State wise details of Fully Covered, Partially Covered & Quality Affected habitations is given at Annexure.
