Question : Super Speciality Hospitals

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to open more Super Speciality Hospitals in the country;

(b) if so, the details of present and proposed Super Speciality Hospitals in the country State/UT-wise; and

(c) the time frame by which such hospitals are likely to be functional?

(a) Health is a State subject and thereby the State concerned is primarily responsible for setting up of Super Speciality Hospitals.

However, Central Government has been supplementing the efforts in the domain of tertiary health care by way of setting up of Institutes of National Importance like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

At present, six new AIIMS are functional at Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) and 5 more AIIMS at Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh), Kalyani (West Bengal), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Bathinda (Punjab) have been approved.
