Question : Adverse Effects of Climate Change


(a) whether the Government has made any assessment of the expenditure likely to be incurred to mitigate the adverse effects of the climate change;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the areas where tiger reserves currently located in the country, State/UT-wise;
(d) whether any new tiger reserve is proposed to be set up in the country; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Estimates by NITI Aayog indicate that the mitigation activities for moderate low carbon development would cost around USD 834 billion till 2030 at 2011 prices.

(c) There are 51 tiger reserves spread across 18 States across in the country covering an area of 73,765.59 sq.km. State/UT wise information is at Annexure.

(d) & (e): The Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha and the Male-Mahadeshwara Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka have been recommended for notification as Tiger Reserves by the National Tiger Conservation Authority as per provisions of Section 38V, sub-section 1, of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
