(a) Some of the Tannieries and Chemical units of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh are not complying with the prescribed environmental norms .
(b) & (c) The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has been regularly monitoring the performance of pollution control facilities of industries in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and has also conducted random surprise inspections. UPPCB has issued show-cause notices and contemplating action against 18 tanneries and five chemical units in Kanpur .
(d) & (e) In Kanpur, the Central Pollution Control Board has taken up several studies such as inventorisation of Tanneries, studies on status of pollution measures taken by the chemical industries, performance evaluation of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) and Swage Treatment Plants (STPs), water quality monitoring in river Ganga and ground water monitoring in identified areas.
