(a) whether the North-East Hill University, Shillong, has
been functioning without a Vice-Chancellor for a
considerable long time;
(b) whether the selection committee to appoint the Vice-
Chancellor has been constituted since long and its report is
still awaited;
(c) if so, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the action proposed to the taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d) As per the Act & Statutes of the North Eastern
Hill University, the Vice-Chancellor of the University is
appointed by the Visitor i.e. the President of India from a
panel of not less than three persons recommended by a Search
Committee consisting of three members. Two of the Search
Committee members are nominated by the Executive Council of
the University and the third is the Visitor’s nominee. The
Search Committee has since been constituted and the matter
is under process.
