Question : National Highway Widening Projects in NER

(a) whether the Government proposes to widen National Highways in the North Eastern Region (NER) of the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the present status of these projects along with the reasons for delay, if any;

(c) whether any National Highway has been converted into four lane in Assam during the last five years and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government of Assam has sent any proposal in this regard and if so, the details and the present status thereof; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to convert State Highway No. 2 in Assam to National Highway and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes, Sir. Ministry has taken up massive road development for widening/improvement of National Highways in North Eastern Region (NER) under Special Accelerated Road Development Program-North East (SARDP-NE) & National Highways Development Program (NHDP). Presently widening of 3636 km National Highways in NER is in progress. Widening of remaining National Highways will be taken up based on traffic density, inter-se priority, availability of funds. Main reasons for delay are Land acquisition, Shifting of utilities, Environment & Forest Clearance, Wild life clearance, Availability of less working season, Non-availability of skill man power and local Agencies etc.

(c) 92 km. National Highway has already been widened to four lane in last five years in NER. Further four laning in 387 Km is in progress.

(d) No Sir.

(e) Yes Sir. State Highway No. 2 from Jalukbari (Amingaon) to Howli is already declared as National Highway-427.
