Question : CONSTRUCTION WORK ON HIGHWAYS



(a) the number of National Highways in the country where construction work is going on, State-wise and NH-wise;

(b) the number of National Highways likely to be made operational in 2009 and 2010, State-wise and NH-wise;

(c) the number of such Highways where construction work is completely stopped, State-wise and NH-wise; and

(d) the steps taken / proposed to be taken by the Government to expedite the construction work?

(a) to (d) The State-wise details of National Highways (NHs) in the country where construction work is going on as on 30-6-2009, are Annexed. Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process and all NHs are kept in traffic-worthy condition within the available resources. Few contracts have been terminated on some of the NHs. However, work has not been stopped completely on any NH. In order to expedite the implementation, progress of projects is closely monitored and concerted efforts are being made to expedite land acquisition, shifting of utilities, granting interest bearing advances to contractors, etc.
