Question : Damage to Farmlands due to heavy rains and floods

(a) whether the Government has received any report from State Government of Maharashtra regarding the damage to farmlands, wells, irrigation pumps etc in Satara district of Maharashtra which were washed away in the heavy rains and floods of July 2021, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether any Central Government team had visited to assess the damage, if so, the details of their assessment; and

(c) whether the Government has finalized or is planing any compensation for the affected farmers, if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): The State Government of Maharashtra submitted a Memorandum seeking financial assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for heavy rains/floods in July 2021. As per the Memorandum, 17504.18 hectare of land belonging to Small and Marginal Farmers was damaged in 20 districts of the State, including Satara. The heavy rains/ floods also damaged infrastructure, such as drinking water supply works, irrigation schemes etc.

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) was constituted prior to receipt of the Memorandum from the State. The IMCT visited the flood/landslides affected areas of Maharashtra from 4th to 6th October 2021 and submitted its report. Additional financial assistance is considered, as per the established procedure.

During the current financial year 2021-22, the State Government of Maharashtra has been allocated Rs.3436.80 crore under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), which includes Rs.2577.60 crore as central share and Rs.859.20 crore as state share. The Central share of Rs.2577.60 crore has been released, in advance.
