Question : COLLECTION OF DATA



(a) whether the Centre for Research and Development of Information Products is receiving data from various organisations including that of CSIR;

(b) if so, the name and address of the institutions contributing data along with the nature of the data during the last two years;

(c) the amount paid for contributing the said data, to each institution from April 1997 to February 2000, year?wise; and

(d) the details of information product released for being processed till February 2000 ?

(a) Unit for Research & Development of Information Products(URDIP), a unit of CSIR is not receiving data from organisations other than CSIR. It has so far received information from CSIR Laboratories only.

(b) National Chemical Laboratory(NCL)of CSIR supplied data on its output and achievements to enable the Centre to bring out in a CD?ROM format `NCL?The Golden Years`.

(c) No payment has been made to NCL as it is a part of CSIR.

(d) Information products released by URDIP during the period in CD?ROM format are
(i) NCL?the Golden Years and
(ii) Health Heritage Vol.I. The first product is an archival,intereactive multimedia disc presenting a grand overview ofNCL and its achievements since its inception half a century ago. The second product `Health Heritage` incorporates both traditional knowledge from Sanskrit Classics referred to by practitioners of Indian systems of medicine and the modern information made available through systematic scientific research during the past forty years on 50 medicinal plants most widely used in Ayurveda. The data for this CD has been collected from various books published by different laboratories of CSIR who have active research programme in the field of medicinal plants.
