STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2361 BY SHRI GYANESHWAR PATIL TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 16.03.2022 REGARDING RE-DEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAY STATIONS
(a): Ministry of Railways through various agencies is undertaking techno-economic feasibility studies of Railway stations. Based on the outcome of these feasibility studies, stations are planned to be taken up for development in phases, especially the stations located in major cities and important tourist destinations. Khandwa station is one of them.
(b) to (d): Khandwa is well connected with Indian Railway Network. However, for further improvement of Railway connectivity from Khandwa, Railway has taken up Rathlam-Mhow-Khandwa-Akola (472.64Km) Gauge Conversion project. The anticipated cost is ?5411 crore. An expenditure of ?2261 crore has been incurred upto March, 2021. An outlay of ?350 crore has been provided for this project for the year 2021-22.
256 Km. length of the project has been commissioned. Land acquisition of 52 hectare revenue land, forestry clearance of 230 forest land in Madhya Pradesh and wild life clearances in Maharashtra, have been taken up. Work has been taken up in available land.
At present, Khandwa is being served by 69 pairs of trains which connect it inter alia to stations like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Amritsar, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kolkata, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, etc. At present, there is no immediate proposal for introduction of new train service from Khandwa. However, introduction of train services is an on-going process on Indian Railways, subject to operational feasibility, commercial justification, competing demands, etc.
