Question : Taking of Bribes by Police

(a) whether personnel/officers belonging to the Delhi Police have been caught taking bribes;

(b) if so, the total number of such cases reported and the action taken against guilty personnel location and individual wise;

(c) the steps taken to curb graft in the Delhi police department; and

(d) the extent to which the said tendency has been curbed as a result thereof?

(a) and (b): The number of cases registered against erring Delhi Police personnel during the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 is 56, 39 and 14 respectively. Details of action taken against guilty police personnel during the year 2016 are at Annexure.

(c): The steps taken to curb graft in the Delhi Police department include checking of corrupt practices of police personnel by the Vigilance Branch of

Delhi Police; setting up of Public Grievances Cells in each District; deterrent action against erring personnel; facility to public to file complaints on toll free numbers 23417995, 23416401, 23416402, 23416403 and 23416404, anti-corruption helpline No.1064 and P.O. Box No.171; single window system in Police Head Quarter to monitor complaints; organizing Jan Sampark Sabhas by District DCsP/ Addl. DCsP regularly with members of the public; sensitization of police personnel to refrain from indulging in corrupt activities; and publicity in both electronic and print media to encourage people to report corruption.

(d): Delhi Police has informed that as a result of the steps taken to curb graft and stringent action taken against guilty police personnel, the number of such cases has shown a decline from 39 in 2015 to 14 in 2016.
