Question : Students of NIT- Srinagar

(a) whether the Government is aware that a number of non-Kashmiri Students have been leaving National Institute of Technology, Srinagar (NIT) recently;
(b) if so, whether a large number of outstation students of the said NIT, have moved out of the campus and pledged not to return until action is taken against a section of staff members for threatening to spoil their careers;
(c) if so, the facts and details thereof;
(d) the steps taken by the Government to create an healthy academic environment in the campus of NIT, Srinagar;
(e) whether the Government has received proposal in regard to setting up branches of some universities outside Kashmir, if so, the details thereof; and
(f) the measures being taken by the Government to check protests being staged in various Universities?

(a) to (d) 1,441 students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar exercised an option given to them in the second week of April, 2016 to leave the Institute temporarily and return home. It was indicated that those who could not consequently sit for the examination in April would be enabled to do so later. The Minor-I re-examinations have scheduled from 5.5.2016 to 8.5.2016. All of the students returned to the Institute by 5.5.2016.
(e) No, Madam.
(f) The Central Universities are autonomous bodies set up by an Act of Parliament and are competent to deal with such protests with the help of local authorities.
