(a)&(b): Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been promoting power generation
from biomass including paddy hay. A target for setting up of biomass based power generation
projects of 500 Megawatt (MW) has been fixed for the 11th Five Year Plan period in the country,
against which a capacity of 460 MW has been achieved. Biomass projects with a cumulative
capacity of 980 MW have been installed, so far in the country.
(c)&(d): Various fiscal and financial incentives such as concessional customs duty on
import of machineries and components, excise duty exemption, accelerated depreciation on major
components, relief from taxes and capital subsidy for setting up of biomass power projects are
being provided. Besides preferential tariff is being provided for sale of power from biomass
power projects.
(e): State-wise details of biomass power projects are given in Annexure.
