Question : Smart Schools

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to set up smart schools in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof indicating the proposal received from the other States in the country in this regard;
(c) whether the Government has approved the said proposals and accorded its administrative and financial approval; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d) The “Information Communication Technology in School” component of RMSA Scheme provides for setting up of 150 smart schools across the country to act as “Technology Demonstrators” and to propagate ICT skills among students of neighbourhood schools. Based on the viable proposal received from the States/UTs, 50 Government Senior/Higher Secondary schools have been approved to be set up as Smart Schools across the country under the Scheme. The State-wise list of these 50 schools approved is annexed.

Under the component, an amount of Rs. 25 lakh per school is provided for setting up a smart school. Further, an amount of Rs. 2.5 lakh per year to each smart school is provided as recurring grant for meeting various expenditures including maintenance, consumables, internet usage and monitoring cost.
