Question : PILFERAGE OF PETROL AND DIESEL FROM DEPOTS OF HPCL



(a) Whether incidents of theft of a large quantity of petrol and diesel from depots of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited were reported during the last three years;

(b) if so, the details of estimated cost and the quantity of such petrol and diesel theft as on date;

(c) the steps taken to check recurrence of such incidents in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): There was one instance of theft of Motor Spirit (MS) on 10.12.2000 from Tank Wagon placed at Railway siding at HPCL`s RAIRU Depot, under Bhopal Regional Office. A quantity of 5967 litres of MS valued at Rs. 61,698 was lost.

(c) : Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) and Oil Industry have strongly taken up the issue with police and local District Administration. 10 people suspected of involvement were arrested by police and 2000 litres MS recovered and a case has also been registered.

(d) :Does not arise in view of `C` above.
