Question : Construction of Roads in Border Areas

(a) whether the Government proposes to construct roads along borders with other countries on priority basis;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the fund allocated for the purpose during 2015-2016;

(c) whether the Government proposes to construct 1500 km highway along with Indo-China Border in Arunachal Pradesh, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the said highway will connect Tawang to Vijay Nagar on border near Myanmar, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the project cost and the time by which the project is likely to be completed?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. A five year (2015-2020) Long Term Roll on Works Plan (LTRoWP) for upgradation / new construction of 519 roads as identified by Army has been approved for execution by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the border regions of the country. State wise details of the roads are enclosed as Appendix-A. The details of fund allocated for the construction / improvement of roads during 2015-16 is as under:-

(c) to (e): Ministry of Home Affairs is considering the feasibility for construction of a lateral road along the Indo-China border from Dirang to Vijaynagar in the State of Arunachal Pradesh to provide livelihood / connectivity to the border population and for the development of the border area. The road from Tawang to Dirang already exists and is in use. The proposal is at feasibility state, due to which the project cost and completion time have not been worked out.
