Question : Mushroom Production

(a) the quantum of mushroom being produced in various States of the country and the details thereof, State-wise;

(b) whether the Government has formulated any scheme to grow special species/ varieties of mushroom in Himalayan States including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir;

(c) if so, the total number of farmers benefited under the scheme so far;

(d) whether the Government proposes to set up food processing units in the country which will be linked with the mushroom production, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the Government has set up any monitoring mechanism to meet the challenges of slow implementation of agricultural and horticultural schemes in the country, if so, the details thereof?

(a): The details are provided at Annexure-I.
(b): Government, under its scheme called Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), provides incentives to Mushroom growing farmers across the country including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The Directorate of Mushroom Research, SOLAN (Himachal Pradesh) is mandated to develop different varieties & species of Mushroom like button mushroom (DMR-03, DMR-06, NBS-1, NBS-5) and Shiitake mushroom (DMR-Shiitake-388 and DMR-Shiitake – 38). These varieties, developed by them, have been promoted through State Extension Divisions for adoption in temperate climate Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

(c): The total number of growers of mushroom, as available, are provided at Annexure-I.

(d): Currently, there is no such scheme under consideration in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries to set up new food processing units in the country which will be linked with mushroom production.

(e): The implementation of various Agricultural and Horticultural schemes in the country is fast and has gained momentum in the past two and half years. These State level schemes for Horticulture are being monitored regularly through National Level General Council under Chairmanship of Union Agriculture Minister, Executive Committee headed by Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare. The implementation in the States is being monitored through State Level Executive Committees, District Mission Committee & Panchayati Raj Institutions. Similar monitoring mechanisms exist for Agricultural schemes as well.
