Question : AMENDMENT TO LABOUR LAWS



(a)whether some State Governments including Rajasthan have sent any proposals to amend certain sections of the labour laws including the Factories Act, Contract Labour Act, Industrial Disputes Act, etc.;

(b)if so, the details thereof along with the response of the Government thereto;

(c)whether the Government is also considering to liberalise labour laws to boost factory jobs and growth in manufacturing sector; and

(d)if so, the details thereof ?

(a) & (b) : The Ministry of Labour and Employment has not received any formal proposal from the State Governments including Rajasthan for amendment in the sections of the Factories Act, 1948, the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970 and the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

(c) & (d): The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion has suggested certain amendments to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 in the context of implementing the National Manufacturing Policy. The suggested amendments have not been finalised.
