Question : Loss of Soil Fertility

(a) whether the Government has conducted any study to estimate the loss of fertility and nutrients in soil in places affected by drought, water scarcity etc;
(b) If so, the details thereof particularly in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh;
(c) the details of districts in above States found to be facing challenges in terms of soil fertility;
(d) whether the Government proposes to introduce measures to increase soil health and fertility and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the details of any assistance extended to farmers who suffer loss due to infertile soil in their field?

(a) to (c): The Government has not conducted any study to estimate the loss of fertility and nutrients in soil in places affected by drought, water scarcity etc.

(d) & (e): The Government is implementing Soil Health Card (SHC) scheme to ascertain soil health and fertility. Soil health card provides nutrient status of the soil along with prescription about balanced and integrated use of inorganic and organic fertilizers to maintain good soil health that results is increase in production.
Demonstration about balanced use of fertilizers based on soil health card recommendations and training to the farmers on proper and integrated use of fertilizers are integral part of the scheme.
