(a): whether some State Governments including Andhra Pradesh had requested
the Union Government to give loans for construction of houses for the weaker
section under the Differential Rate of Interest (DRI) scheme; and
(b): if so, the details thereof during the last three years and the current
year and action taken thereon, so far?

(a) & (b): Pursuant to Budget Announcement 2007-08, the limit of housing loan under
Differential Rate of Interest (DRI) Schemes has been enhanced from Rs. 5,000/- to
Rs. 20,000/- per beneficiary. Further, in pursuance of Budget Announcement 2008-09
Public Sector Banks have been advised by Indian Banks` Association (IBA) to provide
a top up loan of Rs. 20,000/- to the beneficiaries of Indira A was Yoj ana under
DRI scheme.
