Question : Construction of Roads on Indo-China and Indo-Pak Borders

(a) whether the Government has taken a decision to undertake 44 road projects on Indo-China and Indo-Pak borders;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the total amount estimated to be spent for the construction of these road projects; and

(d) the target set for completion of construction of these projects?

(a) to (d) The Ministry is primarily responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs).The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the implementation of an umbrella programme for National Highways “Bharatmala Pariyojna Phase-I” on 24th October 2017, at an estimated outlay of Rs. 5,35,000 Crore. A total of 24,800 kms length of National Highways (including about 2,000 km length of Border and International connectivity roads) and 10,000 km residual NHDP road works have been considered for construction over a period of 5 years i.e. from 2017-18 to 2021-22in Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana.
