Question : Losses due to Wildfire

(a) the names of the States in which wildfire broke out in forest areas during the last two years and the current year;
(b) the reasons for the wildfire and the size of forest area in which loss of life and property occurred due to the wildfire;
(c) whether the environment loss due to wild fire in forest areas has been assessed;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to compensate the loss of forest area due to wildfire?

(a) This Ministry does not maintain the details in respect of number of forest fires. The State/UT wise number of forest fire alerts reported by Forest Survey of India, Dehradun in the last three years is at Annexure-I. Forest fires are generally reported from most of the States.

(b) Most of the forest fires are man-made. The State / UT wise details of forest areas affected by forest fires are not maintained at the level of Ministry.

(c)& (d)No such assessment of the environment loss due to wild fire has been done by the Ministry.

(e) There are no specific steps taken / proposed to be taken by the Government as such to compensate the loss of forest area due to wildfire.
