(a) whether the Government has any problem in expediting the Chennai Metro project phase II, corridor 3 and corridor 4;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the amount allocated and utilized so far;
(c) whether the Government has allowed Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to mobilize funds from any private players or foreign financial institutions; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the expected time of completion of the two corridors?
(a) Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase-II is at present being implemented as a State Sector Project.
(b) Does not arise.
(c)& (d) The proposal for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan for ? 20,196 crore (equivalent to 357,476 million Japanese Yen) for the project as a State Sector Project was supported by the Ministry. Loan agreement for Tranche I for the project was signed on 21.12.2018 with JICA for 75.519 billion yen. Also, different components of the project have been posed to Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and New Development Bank (NDB) for external assistance as a State Sector Project.
As per Detailed Project Report, the two corridors are expected to be completed by 2026.
