Question : Review of SLNP

(a) whether any review of the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) was conducted by the Government after completion of Phase-I of the project;

(b) if so, the outcome thereof and the steps being taken thereon;

(c) whether the Government proposes to launch Phase-II of the project; and

(d) if so, the details thereof including targets fixed and the cities/towns proposed o be covered thereunder?

(a) & (b) : The Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) is an ongoing programme, being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture company of four Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under Ministry of Power and it envisages replacement of 3.5 crore conventional street lights with LED lights by March, 2019. This will result in an estimated annual energy saving of 9 Bllion KWh, avoided capacity generation of 1500 MW and reduction in Green House Gas (GHG) emission of 6.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

No specific review of this programme has been conducted by the Government. However, progress on implementation of the programme is being monitored through weekly reports submitted by EESL.

As on 02.03.2017, over 17.53 lakhs LED street lights have been installed, resulting in an estimated annual energy saving of 1.125 Bllion KWh, avoided capacity generation of 187.5 MW and reduction in GHG emission of 0.775 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

(c) : At present, there is no proposal to launch Phase-II of the project.

(d) : Does not arise in vies of answer (c) above.
