Question : Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu

a) whether there is any plan to shift the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu from Mysuru to Andhra Pradesh or Telangana;

b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

c) whether there are any schemes to promote Telugu and further its knowledge in other parts of the country; and

d) if so, the details thereof ?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 1 TO BE ANSWERED ON 18.11.2019 ASKED BY SHRI KESINENI SRINIVAS, HON’BLE M.P. REGARDING “Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu ”

(a) & (b): Yes Sir. Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu has been shifted from Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh being a Telugu speaking state.

(c) & (d): The policy of the Government is to promote all Indian Languages including Telugu. Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) which has been set up for this purpose, imparts training to non native school teachers, prospective teachers and general public via ten month diploma course to teachers across the country in all southern languages including Telugu. This centre conducts seminars, workshops and conferences on Telugu language. National Translation Mission (NTM) undertakes translation of higher education texts books including titles in Telugu. Bharatavani project works for the knowledge texts in Telugu and published them on the portal.

University Grants Commission has approved a Centre for Classical Languages in Telugu in University of Hyderabad and allocated a grant of Rs.150.00 lakh. Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, University of Hyderabad and Central University of Andhra Pradesh are offering Telugu language courses.
