Question : AIR SERVICES TO LADAKH



(a) whether the Government propose to introduce air services to Ladakh keeping in view the interest of tourists, particularly foreign tourists; and

(b) if so, the time by which a final decision is likely to be taken in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI SHARAD YADAV)

(a) and (b): At present, following scheduled air services are availble to/from Leh in Ladakh region:

Sector	Frequency/week
Indian Airlines:
Delhi-Leh-Delhi 4 (upto 31/8/2000)
Alliance Air:
Delhi-Leh-Delhi 4 Leh-Srinagar-Leh 1 Leh-Jammu-Leh 2 Leh-Chandigarh-Leh 1
Alliance air is also operating additional air services on Delhi-Leh-Delhi sector with a frequency of 4 flights/week w.e.f. 15.6.2000 to 10.9.2000.

Private airlines have also been asked to consider operating more flights to Leh. However, it is upto the airlines to provide air services to specific places depending upon the traffic demand and commercial viability subject to compliance of route dispersal guidelines issued by Government.
