(a) whether the Government is planning to improvise the functioning of existing Central Armed Police Forces to tackle insurgency and terrorism activities; and

(a) & (b):Yes, Madam. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) play varied roles that include guarding the borders, assisting the civil administration under the State Government/Union Territory Administrations in maintenance of public order, internal security and counter insurgency operations and providing security for vital installations of national/strategic importance among others. The strengthening of CAPFs by restructuring and re-organizing them from time to time’s is a continuous and ongoing process. The Government takes suitable steps to improvise the functioning of CAPFs as per the requirements. Particularly, these Forces have been imparted special training at various Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorist (CIAT) Schools to tackle insurgency and terrorism activities. Further, to improve operational efficiency, improved equipment such as sophisticated weapons, Night Vision Devices, Patrolling equipment, vehicles and clothing are procured and provided to these troops. Furthermore, under the Modernization Plan-II, CAPFs are equipped with modern state-of-the-art technology equipment, weaponry items, communications, medical items, machinery equipment, IT items etc. In addition, weapons like Assault Rifles(7.62 X 39 mm), Sniper Rifles, X-95 Assault Rifles, Glock Pistols, MP-5 Sub Machine Guns and Carbines have also been provided to CAPFs from time to time.
