Question : National Food Security Mission

(a) whether the Government is planning to subsidize high-yielding/hybrid seeds for distribution to the farmers, so that the objective of National Food Security Mission is achieved;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, whether the Government proposes to support the farmers in achieving the objectives of the National Food Security Mission?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 93 DUE FOR REPLY ON 08.02.2022 REGARDING “NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY MISSION”.

(a) to (c): The Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is already implementing the National Food Security Mission (NFSM)in 28 states & 2 Union Territories of the country to enhance the production of agricultural crops. The mission provides incentives on distribution of certified seeds of the High Yielding Varieties (HYVs)/Hybrids of Rice, Wheat, Pulses, Coarse Cereals, Nutri Cereals, Jute and Oilseeds to the farmers.
In addition, certified seeds of newly released HYVs/Hybrids of pulses & oilseeds in form of seed minikits are given to the farmers free of cost. During 2021-22, the highest number of seed mini kits have been distributed to the farmers free of cost which is 12.57 lakh and 8.37 lakh for pulses and oilseeds respectively. The dissemination of new HYVs and Hybrids of various crops including critical inputs has resulted in record production of pulses, oilseeds and foodgrains at 25.72 million tonnes, 36.10 million tonnes and 308.65 million tonnes respectively, during 2020-21.
