Question : Development of Border Villages


(a) whether the Government is allocating special funds for all-around development of villages located near the international borders;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details of funds allocated and spent for this purpose during the last five years, State-wise including Rajasthan?

(a) to (c): Government of India is implementing the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) in border areas of 17 States including Rajasthan. BADP is a major intervention for filling critical gaps in provision of essential social and economic infrastructure in the border areas to ensure equitable development in these areas. The works/ projects undertaken under the BADP relate to construction of roads, bridges, safe drinking water supply, health, agriculture and allied activities, social sector activities such as creation of social infrastructure, capacity building and skill development, construction of toilets particularly for women, sports activities, promotion of rural tourism, border tourism etc. These activities help in providing additional job opportunities, improving quality of life and improving standard of living in the border areas. State Governments and spent by the State Governments during the last five financial years 2014-15 to 2018-19 is at Annexure. Funds are also being released for development of border villages, as Model Villages which enables development of one village of sizeable population surrounded by a cluster of neighboring villages close to the border areas. During the previous years 2016-17 and 2017-18, an amount of Rs.126.02 crore has been released for development of 61 Model villages (including 3 villages of Rajasthan),
