Question : Maintenance and Development of National Highways

(a) the details of the National Highways (NHs) in the country particularly in tribal areas as on date;
(b) the funds allocated to the State Governments for maintainence and development of NHs during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;
(c) whether the Government has received proposals regarding maintainence and development of NHs during the said period; and
(d) if so, the details and the present status thereof, State-wise?

(a) There are 658 National Highways (NHs) in the country having total length of 1,41,190 km as on date. Out of this, 201 NHs in the country are passing through the tribal districts.
(b) to (d) Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process. The works on NHs, including those in the tribal areas, are accordingly taken up depending upon inter-se priority, traffic density and availability of funds. The State / Union Territory (UT) – wise details of NHs works sanctioned / awarded during each of the last three years and the current year are placed at Annexure-I.
The State / UT / Agency - wise details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred for development and maintenance of NHs during each of the last three years and the current year are placed at Annexure-II and Annexure-III respectively.
