Question : AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres

Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government had proposed to set up 12,500 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres in the country under Ayushman Bharat Programme, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether only 4400 such centres have been approved so far and only 520 have become operational; and

(c) the time by which the Government is likely to achieve the target of setting up 12,500 such centres?

(a): Yes. The Union Cabinet has approved the inclusion of the AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) component of Ayushman Bharat in National AYUSH Mission. The Central Government has approved the operationalization of 12,500 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) through States/UTs as a component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) in a phased manner by the year 2023-24. Through AYUSH HWCs, it is envisaged to establish a holistic wellness model based on AYUSH principles and practices, to empower masses for “self-care” to reduce the disease burden, out of pocket expenditure and to provide informed choice to the needy public.

(b): No. As per the proposal received from States/UTs, Ministry of Ayush has approved 4,448 health facilities for up gradation as AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in 32 States/UTs during the year 2019-20 and 2020-21. As per the reports from States/UTs, 1,241 AYUSH HWCs have been made functional under progressive category till date.

(c): As per the approval for operationalization of 12,500 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres as a component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM), it is envisaged to set up them by the year 2023-24.
