Question : REPLACEMENT OF TRACKS AND BRIDGES

(a) the total length and the names of rail routes and bridges due for replacement during the last three years and current year so far, zone/state-wise;

(b) the names of the routes and total length of rail tracks and bridges replaced during the above period along with expenditure incurred thereon so far, zone/state-wise;

(c) whether the Government have fixed any target for the replacement of rail tracks and bridges in the next three years;

(d) if so, the details thereof, route-wise;

(e) whether Patna-Gaya, Gaya-Kiul and Patna-Howrah rail lines of Eastern Railway are also to be replaced;

(f) if so, the time by which these are likely to be replaced;

(g) whether the replacement work is progressing very slowly; and

(h) if so, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (h) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2925 ASKED BY SHRI CHINTAMAN WANAGA, SHRI ANANTA NAYAK AND SHRI RAJOSINGH TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 10.8.2000 REGARDING REPLACEMENT OF TRACKS AND BRIDGES.

(a) Zone-wise details of track due for renewals for the last three years and current year are given in Appendix – I. Position of track renewal and bridge rebuilding is maintained zone wise and not State-wise or route-wise. With regard to bridges, the information is being collected and shall be placed on the table of the house.

(b) Zone-wise details of track replaced and expenditure incurred thereon during the last three years and current year (up to June) are given in Appendix –II. Position of track renewal, bridges rebuilding and expenditure thereon is maintained zone wise and not State-wise or route-wise. With regard to bridges, the information is being collected and shall be placed on the table of the house.

(c) & (d) Yes, Sir. The target for track renewals are being fixed every year depending upon the extent of track due renewal and funds becoming available in railway budget.

(e) Only those portion of the track on Patna-Gaya, Gaya- Kiul and Patna-Howrah shall be replaced that become due for replacement.

(f) Track is being replaced on programmed basis depending upon the need for replacement and the funds becoming available in railway budget.

(g) No, Sir.

(h) Does not arise.
