Question : Common entrance test for undergraduate admissions

(a) whether it is true that as per the new National Education Policy, Government is exploring the feasibility of holding a common entrance test for undergraduate admissions across Central Universities?
(b) whether the Government has sought views of eminent educationists and experts in this regard?
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any time frame has been fixed to conduct a common entrance test for varsities;
(e) if so, the details thereof; and
(f) whether it is true that the Government has requested University Grants Commission to set up a Committee to go into the nitty-gritty of implementation of National Education Policy recommendations about common entrance test and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f) New National Education Policy, 2020 envisions for common entrance test for different subjects for admissions in universities to reduce burden on students, universities and colleges and the entire education system. Accordingly, this Ministry has requested University Grants Commission (UGC) to set up a Committee including Vice Chancellors of old and new Central Universities to go into the nitty-gritty of implementation of National Education Policy recommendations about common entrance test at Under-graduate level in Central Universities. The UGC has constituted a Committee which comprises Vice Chancellors of Central University of Punjab, Mizoram University, Central University of South Bihar, University of Delhi, BHU, Director General, National Testing Agency and Joint Secretary of UGC.
