Question : Effectiveness of Copper against SARS-CoV-2

(a) whether the Government is aware of the notification issued in February 2021 by U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stating that certain copper alloys provide long-term effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2 virus and eliminate the COVID-19 causing virus within two hours due to anti-microbial properties of copper;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to utilize copper in healthcare infrastructure in the wake of USEPA certification as a long-term and sustainable tool of preventing the spread of infections during times such as the current pandemic; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reportedly announced that certain copper alloys provide long-term effectiveness against viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

However, the use of antimicrobial copper alloy products supplements but does not replace standard infection control practices. Individual should continue to follow public health guidelines, including critical precautions like mask wearing, social distancing and proper ventilation.
