Question : Composition of Units-Departments in Hospitals

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether there are specified criteria/ guidelines to decide the composition and strength of various units/departments and their heads and if so, the details thereof;


(b) whether the Government has taken note of violations of such criteria in composition and strength and allocation of heads of units in the department of orthopaedics at Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi and if so, the details thereof along with the action taken thereon; and

(c) the measures taken by the Government to address such violations and prevent them in the future?

(a): There are some norms laid down norms by Medical Council of India (MCI) for teaching colleges, which, inter alia, provides that one unit for 30 beds comprises one Professor, one Associate Professor/Reader and One Assistant Professor/Lecturer. These norms are only for broad specialty.

(b) & (c): Dr. RML Hospital has informed that there is no violation of criteria in composition, strength and allocation of heads of units in the Department of Orthopedics in their Hospital.
