Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:
(a) whether there have been demands to merge the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the Health Ministry;
(b) if so, the stand of the Ministry in this regard; and
(c) whether the Ministry has written to the NITI Aayog in this regard and if so, the details thereof?

(a): There is no demand as such. However, there is a recommendation of the Group of Secretaries on Health, Sanitation and Urban Development proposing to bring the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
(b): The Department of Pharmaceuticals is of the view that the subjects and regulatory bodies related to Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, i.e., Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) (O/o DCGI), Pharmacopeia Commission, Pharmacy Education, matters relating to Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices export etc. along with the work presently being handled by the Department of Pharmaceuticals should be handled at one place preferably by a new Ministry by the name of Ministry of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices.
