Question : Promotion of Yogasan

(a) whether the Government proposes to promote Yogasan as a sport for its effective creation of interest among children from the childhood at school levels;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has taken any initiative to promote Yogasan as a competitive sports to be taken up for globally organised events like world championship, Asian Games and even in Olympic Games, if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government proposes to establish a National Yoga Federation; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): The Government, after deliberation at length and taking into account the relevant factors including developing Yogasana as a competitive sport has already recognised the National Yogasana Sports Federation (NYSF) as a National Sports Federation for promotionand development of Yogasana as a competitive sport in the country. The Government recognition makes NYSF eligible for financial assistance for conduct of national championship in all the categories, viz. Seniors, Juniors and Sub-Juniors and participation in international sporting events of Yogasana sport.
